Work in Progress: The DIA Commission
Here is work in progress on my Denver International Airport commission. I’m making 29 pots for DIA to give to the Mayor of Takayama, and officials who work for an airport In Takayama, Japan. I have to make all these pieces in six short weeks. The text that is going on them is; Denver - Takayama 50th Anniversary and Ascent to Asia, Denver – Tokyo Nonstop. I have to make 25 bowls and 4 larger architectural pieces.
I got the commission from having the feature article in the Great Lakes Airlines Magazine Peaks and Plains. (If you want to see the post about magazine click here.) The marketing manager bought a few of my pieces to give to the DIA folks, then they liked my work enough to call for for the commission. It was all very exciting. It was really thrilling to see how one thing lead to another.
Here are the pieces so far…

Thanks Jim, Yes, I’m very much in production mode. And usually I’m pretty far from the idea of production. But it’s been cool, I’ve been figuring out how to make the bowls faster.
