Thursday, February 4th, 2010
annie meyer6  Annie’s website: www.anniemeyerartwork.com/ Gallery Studio 2507: http://studio2507.com/ I met Annie when when I was accepted to have a solo show for NCECA in Portland, Oregon.  I was selected to have my exhibition in Annie’s gallery Studio 2507.   Annie took such good care of me, showing me all around Portland.  She took me to Voodoo Donuts, and a bunch of other fun places, and introduced to tons of potters. I fell in love with Portland and Annie.  Tell us a little about yourself! I'm 56 years old-I have a small gallery attached to my studio in Portland, Oregon. I've been a working artist since 1993, although I have been making art all of my adult life. annie meyer 4 How did you become an artist? I drew the figure in high school. It was my introduction to art. I kept drawing the figure, and kept trying to figure out a way to be an artist. Annie Meyer IMG_9075 crop sm What is your inspiration for your pieces? color, shape, emotion What do you create? Paintings, ceramic tiles, and monotype prints.  Where do you get your inspiration for your paintings? I paint from a live model each week. I also make sabbatical trips to France and Eastern Oregon to paint landscapes. annie Meyer1 What has been the most effective way for you to promote your art? Consistency. I advertise the same images in city wide publications. I am in the same exhibitions each year. I have had my studio/gallery or 10 years in the same location. annie meyer 5 What is the most important thing you'd like people to know and understand about your work? That it is my own ideas and soul. all my work is original. annie meyer 3 What keeps you motivated? Always being behind!  I also generate a new body of work every year. I use fall through winter to do this. I go on a painting trip in the fall, and I use my ideas from that trip to formulate a new body of work. annie meyer 7 What or who inspires you? Other artists. I love meeting someone in their 80's who is still making art. I spend a lot of time looking at other artist's exhibitions.  Are you a full-time artist? Yes annie meyer8 How does your creative process work? At this point in my life, and really for the last 5 years I have been so involved-I am always thinking about or working on past, present, and future ideas. Having a studio out of the home gives me a place to go and work . So i have a list of what i need to make, I'm always behind, but I'm always making something. Things cannot get made unless you are in your studio, so I do make sure I go each day, even if it is for a few minutes. Thank You Annie!
